Crocheted slippers for the navy??

Alas it is finished, the most recent of my crochet projects. Navy themed crocheted slippers. I had a hard time figuring out which was navy in the store. There was close-to-black navy which looks black when placed next to white, but looks navy when placed next to black; then there was navy which was closer to dark blue, and navy which was closer to cyan. When I asked my friend who was with me at that time which  navy to choose from, he said "I'm colour blind---to certain colours". Well, that just shows the variety of navy that store has. Apart from the colour to consider, there was also the weight and price factor, not to mention the meterage factor. Anyway, I ended up buying Shepherd Very Crafty 8ply 100% Pure New Wool with a meterage of 191m, waaaayyy less than the usual wool I use for making slippers. But now I know how much of wool I need to make a pair of slippers. Ah..something new to learn in each crochet project.

Keeping her warm

Last week, I went to visit my sister. Let's say she lives in a different time zone than me. She will be going to the UK soon and has requested that I crochet a hat and a shawl for her. When I went to visit her, we went to buy some wool and upon reaching home, I began my noble task of crocheting with the aim of keeping my sister warm when she goes to that new place. I began with her red hat, halfway through, I began on the shawl, and halfway through I began another project---gloves. I like to start a few projects at about the same time because I get bored easily and I enjoy seeing more than one projects being completed all at about the same time. Makes me feel more productive too. Alas, after more than 40 hours of crocheting, I finally came up with two hats, one shawl and half a glove. My sister was overjoyed to receive them, so overjoyed that she requested for another pair of glove!!! Oh, and I managed to crochet a beanie for her husband too. Unfortunately I couldn't finish her gloves in time and brought them back home. Will be posting it to her once I have them completed. Now they are sitting just at the corner of my room, waiting for me, begging me to finish them. Guess it's going to take me a while before I can continue working on them. After all, who could blame me after having a more than 40 hours crochet ordeal!! :::Laughs::::

Slouch hat with lots of red and hints of brown.
My sister was the model by the way.

Slouch hat made with lots of love and sunshine,
Sunshine as!

She wanted 3 colours crocheted together, but they were too thick to do so. She's happy with this though.

Crocheted Earrings

Yellow Crocheted Earrings

Alas...something that I made which I wished I had made ages ago. I remember wanting to buy these earrings so badly but they cost so much in the store. Apart from that, they weigh quite a bit and my ears hurt after having them on for a short period of time. But these...oh these precious ones...the solution to my ears' agony. They are so light and I don't even remember I have them on until my friends complimented them. I think I won't be buying any earrings for a while.

Crocheted Shoes Mania

Yellow Shoes with Brown Bows

My blog's title is "Something new everyday" but I can hardly update it daily because I have been, as usual for the past 1 month, busy crocheting!! This is my latest design which I just got done today!

I am so happy with it. I would love to wear every single crochet shoes that I made but that would mean running out of cash to buy more wool to create more new shoes. The other day, my husband thought I had gone nuts when he saw 8 pairs of slippers and all my wool on our bed---I was reorganizing my crafts and had left it done halfway. But oh shoes...who doesn't love them? I don't mind sleeping with them on my bed. Plus they are crocheted, so no worries about hurting yourself with the hard heels cause these~ are soft as... wool~~

Crocheted Shoes

For the past week I've been crocheting shoes non stop. I find crocheting highly addictive (I believe many others who crochet would agree). I didn't realise that I was addicted to crocheting until one night, I lost my only crochet stick Yes, I only have one crochet stick which I bought for NZD1.50 from The Salvation Army Store. My husband and I were going to a meeting and I thought I would crochet while we were having the meeting. However, later on I thought it impolite to do so! So I didn't... When we got back from the meeting, I was upset to find that my crochet stick was not in the bag with my wool! I searched my bag a few times and ended up frustrated! I looked at my husband and he said I should continue knitting at the moment, and tomorrow we'll call up our friend to ask her whether she'd seen my crochet stick at her place. I took his advice and knitted silently...at the same time, wondered whether God was speaking to me and telling me I've been placing crocheting above him... Anyway, here are some photos of them. And thanks to Lisa from Goodknits for her basic shoe pattern.

A blog that birthed from crocheting

As the title implies, this blog existed because I wish to share the work of my hands. I've always been an avid fan of DIY projects. It wasn't until I moved to a foreign land that I have the abundance of time in my hands. In the last few months I have been filling in my time with cooking, baking, gardening, knitting and now crocheting. So here is my first post for today, the crocheted shoes that inspired this blog and I hope to post more in the future.

The photo here is of a pair of shoes which I crocheted for a little girl of 2 and a half years old. I hope she likes them. It is my very first pair of crocheted shoes for little girls :)
